Read the first three chapters of The Selfish Gene by Richard Dawnkins  download.  In this book, first published in 1976, Dawkins proposes a gene-centered view of evolution (as opposed to group selection) to explain a range of human and animal behaviors such as selfishness, altruism, kin selection, and competition.  The first three chapters discuss how genes developed and continue to survive, replicate and evolve through their “survival machines” (us).

Assignment:  Provide a summary and analysis of The Selfish Gene  download.  For each chapter, provide two paragraphs (400 words/chapter, totaling 1200+ words for the assignment).  The first paragraph should be a brief summary of the chapter, including any potential tie-ins to Molecular Biology I content.  In the second paragraph, discuss your favorite topic(s) from the chapter and why it was your favorite, and any further analysis (if applicable).
