This 2 part assignment consists of: a narrative summary of an interview with female-identified (Module 2) and a male-identified individual (Module 3) regarding their perceptions regarding their own health and an analysis of the interview using supporting evidence based literature.

You will conduct one interview of a female-identified individual in Module 2 that will be due at the end of Module 3. In Module 3, you will conduct an interview with a male-identified individual due at the end of Module 4. Choose someone who is willing to sit with you and talk to you openly about their thoughts and experiences. This individual may be a family member, a friend, or a co-worker. Remember, use only first names for confidentiality reasons.

After completing your interview, write a 2-3 page paper organized in two parts addressing the following:

Part I:  After completing the interview, you will write a narrative summary of the data you have collected addressing all key points as listed below.

Introduction:   In the first paragraph, provide a brief description of the person you interviewed that includes demographic information. (i.e., age, occupation, family situation, marital status, educational level, etc.).

Part II: Analysis: The purpose of this section is to analyze the differences and/or the similarities between the person you interviewed and the literature.

Using the objective research discussed in Module 2 and 3:

  • Discuss your perceptions of the individual you interviewed from the perspective of sex and gender and provide supporting evidence.
  • Provide at least 3 examples of gender-related behaviors discussed or observed in the interview.
  • Describe the similarities and/or differences these behaviors are compared to other members of the same sex/gender based on evidence based research presented in Module 2 and 3.
  • Discuss how sex/gender based behaviors influence one’s health.

1.  In your own words and using your own thoughts fill in the details in John’s story. Describe his home and work life. Describe his relationship with his children. Is there a wife or  significant other. What factors in his life might be contributing to his headaches? What has he done about these headaches?

General guidelines: 6 double-spaced, not including the bibliography. This is a short paper, but I expect the research to be extensive and the information to be presented concisely.

Choosing your site: You will choose one archaeological site or object to focus on for your final paper. This should be a site or object that is still being actively researched either due to new excavation and analysis or re-analysis of old data. This means that there should be recent, scholarly sources on the site’s interpretation (within the last 10 to 15 years). Choose a site based on a region, time period, or type of research question that you find interesting.

What to cover in the paper: Your paper should be written in three parts.  The first two parts will be of roughly equal length. In the first part, you should provide a summary of what we know about the site you have chosen and an explanation of how we know what we know. This should include information such as site location, date, and importance.
In the second part, you should focus on one analytical method that is currently being used to augment our understanding of the site. You must describe how the method works, what it can tell us, and specifically how it is changing the interpretation of your site given what you discussed in Part 1.
Part 3 will be a short section on how the site or object might have an alternative interpretation to it – there are no wrong answers here, just a way to think differently and critically about what you learned about the site/object.

Sources: You must find and use at least five sources that have not been utilized in class. These should include both sources that describe the site itself and sources that focus on the particular methodological technique being applied. In-text citations should be used throughout the paper, but you can use any accepted academic citation style you are comfortable with.
