I will be fair. Review the POWERPOINT for Problem-Solution Essay in Research Paper Resources first to give you an idea of how this research paper is take shape. Half of paper is on the causes of the problem, how widespread it is why it’s a pandemic or of epidemic proportion; the other half is on solutions, arguing for the Best, most viable, cost-efficient (if applicable) solution.

Argumentative Research Paper

This is an Argumentative Research Paper, so the need to use logos, ethos, and pathos in sound reasoning is critical. Read up on COUNTER-ARGUMENT in Research Paper Resources. Use your experience in writing Essays 1 and 2.

For example, if you are doing the topic of the impact and influence of social media on racism (make sure you define “racism” in essay), start your thesis with an Although statement (again check out thesis resource)

SAMPLE THESIS

“Although social media has been used to promote racial literacy, raise questions and resist racism in movements such as Black Lives Matter and Black Minds Matter (you can put these examples in body paragraphs to avoid making your thesis too wordy), social media has also revealed persistent systemic racism that divide communities and has been employed as a tool to spread racism, fake news, hate speech and harassment.

COUNTER-ARGUMENT

Do not ignore the COUNTER-ARGUMENT that social media has been used to great effect to combat racism too such as #blacklivesmatter and allowed systemic racism by law enforcement to be exposed as in “#georgefloyd, #justicefor georgefloyd.

In this research essay, one has to present BOTH sides of social media and racism and argue that your position is better. OR you can say social media has both positive and negative impact on racism but the negative impact must be exposed for its toxic effects.
